June 2026 Site Update

400+ Species Milestone
June marked another major milestone for Exotic Woods of the World as the library surpassed 400 published wood species pages.
What began earlier this year as an educational relaunch has continued to grow at a remarkable pace. Reaching 400 species represents another significant step toward building one of the world’s most comprehensive online references dedicated to wood species, wood identification, woodworking properties, and conservation awareness.
Surpassing 400 Published Species
The species library continued to expand throughout June with new additions from around the world.
Coverage now includes hundreds of species representing:
- Tropical hardwoods
- Temperate hardwoods
- Commercial timber species
- Rare and lesser-known woods
- Historic and culturally significant species
- Woods from every major geographic region
Each new species profile helps preserve knowledge while making reliable information more accessible to woodworkers, collectors, educators, students, and researchers.
Wood Family & Trade Group Expansion
As the library has grown, development has expanded beyond individual species pages.
Additional work during June focused on expanding Wood Family and Trade Group resources, helping visitors better understand relationships between species and providing broader educational context.
These resources continue to transform the site into a more comprehensive wood reference library rather than simply a collection of individual species profiles.
Exotic Woods of the World Shop Launch
One of the most exciting developments during June was the launch of the Exotic Woods of the World Shop.
The shop provides a foundation for future educational products, collector resources, and project support initiatives while helping fund the continued growth of the library.
Additional products and resources will continue to be added as the project develops.
Adopt-a-Species Program Launch
June also saw the introduction of the Adopt-a-Species Program.
This initiative provides a unique opportunity for supporters to help sponsor the continued documentation and preservation of wood species information while supporting educational and conservation-focused efforts.
The program represents an important step toward creating sustainable support for future growth.
Educational Videos and Resources
Development of the educational video library continued throughout June.
Videos remain an important part of the long-term vision for Exotic Woods of the World, providing visual learning opportunities that complement the growing written library.
Additional educational guides, identification resources, and reference materials are also planned as the project continues to expand.
Introducing Site Updates
June also marks the beginning of a new approach to documenting project progress.
The former newsletter system has been replaced with the Site Updates archive, providing a permanent, publicly accessible record of milestones, new content, and project developments.
This approach allows visitors to follow the growth of the project directly through the website while creating a lasting archive of the library’s development.
Looking Ahead
With the 400-species milestone now achieved, attention turns toward the next major goal: reaching 500 published species pages.
Future priorities include:
- Expanding the Wood Species Library
- Growing the Educational Video Library
- Adding Additional Family & Trade Group Pages
- Expanding Conservation Awareness Initiatives
- Developing New Collector Resources
- Continuing Shop and Adopt-a-Species Growth
The pace of growth throughout 2026 has exceeded expectations, and the project continues moving steadily toward becoming one of the largest educational wood reference resources available online.
