May 2026 Site Update

300+ Species Milestone
May was another significant month for Exotic Woods of the World as the library surpassed 300 published wood species pages.
Only one month after reaching the 200-species milestone, the project continued its rapid expansion with new species profiles, improved educational resources, and ongoing development of the site’s long-term structure. Reaching 300 species marks another major step toward creating one of the world’s most comprehensive online references dedicated to wood species and wood identification.
Surpassing 300 Published Species
The library continued to grow throughout May with the addition of numerous species from around the world.
The collection now includes woods representing:
- Tropical hardwoods
- Temperate hardwoods
- Commercial timber species
- Rare and lesser-known woods
- Historic and culturally significant species
- Woods from every major geographic region
Each new species page expands the educational value of the library while helping preserve information about wood species that are often difficult to research in a single location.
Expanding Beyond Individual Species
As the species library continued to grow, efforts also focused on building supporting resources that help visitors better understand relationships between woods.
Development during May included:
- Expansion of regional hardwood collections
- Continued development of educational guides
- Improved navigation and internal linking
- Planning for wood family and trade group resources
- Ongoing video development
- Continued conservation awareness efforts
These additions help transform the site from a collection of species pages into a broader educational reference library.
Building a Global Wood Reference
One of the primary goals of Exotic Woods of the World is to create a resource that highlights woods from every corner of the globe.
The project now includes growing coverage of species from:
- Africa
- Asia
- Australia & Oceania
- Europe
- North America
- South America
- Central America
- The Caribbean
This worldwide approach allows visitors to compare species from different regions while gaining a deeper understanding of global timber diversity.
Looking Ahead
With the 300-species milestone achieved, attention now turns toward the next major goal: reaching 400 published species pages.
Future development efforts will continue focusing on:
- Expanding species coverage
- Developing wood family resources
- Growing educational content
- Expanding video production
- Supporting conservation awareness
- Building collector-focused resources
The pace of growth throughout the first half of 2026 has exceeded expectations, and the project continues to move steadily toward becoming one of the largest educational wood references available online.
