July 2026 Site Update

July has been another major milestone for Exotic Woods of the World as the project continues its mission of becoming the world’s most comprehensive educational resource dedicated to wood species, identification, woodworking, and forestry.

The website has grown significantly over the past several months, and we are now approaching one of our biggest achievements yet—500 documented wood species.

Project Milestones

As of this update, Exotic Woods of the World now includes:

  • 470+ wood species pages
  • 35+ published educational videos
  • 70+ additional videos already produced and awaiting publication
  • Hundreds of original photographs and illustrations
  • A rapidly growing collection of printable wood collector cards
  • Educational resources covering hardwoods and softwoods from every inhabited continent

Every week brings new species, new videos, and additional educational content to help woodworkers, collectors, students, educators, and woodworking enthusiasts better understand the incredible diversity of the world’s woods.

New Species Continue to Expand the Library

July included the addition of dozens of new species representing forests from around the world, including:

Each species page includes detailed information covering identification, grain characteristics, color, working properties, durability, density, Janka hardness, common uses, distribution, and related resources.

Growing Video Library

Our YouTube channel continues to expand with professionally narrated educational videos designed to complement each species page.

Every published species video helps visitors visually explore:

  • Color and grain
  • Texture
  • Working characteristics
  • Typical applications
  • Identification features

With more than 70 completed videos already waiting to be released, visitors can expect a steady stream of new content throughout the remainder of 2026.

Collector Cards

The Exotic Woods of the World collector card collection continues to grow alongside the website.

Each newly documented species now receives its own professionally designed collector card, creating one of the largest educational wood card collections available online.

Behind-the-Scenes Improvements

While new species remain the primary focus, significant work has also been completed behind the scenes to improve the overall experience.

Recent improvements include:

  • Faster page production workflow
  • Improved internal linking between related species
  • Enhanced SEO across the website
  • Continued refinement of page layouts
  • Expanded regional navigation
  • Improved multimedia integration
  • Additional educational resources throughout the site

These updates make it easier for visitors to discover related species while improving the site’s overall performance and usability.

Looking Ahead

The next major milestone is reaching 500 documented wood species, a goal that is now within reach.

After that milestone is achieved, development will continue with:

  • Hundreds of additional species pages
  • Expanded wood family and trade group guides
  • More comparison articles
  • Continued weekly video releases
  • Additional woodworking educational resources
  • Growth of the collector card collection
  • New reference materials for wood identification

Our long-term vision remains unchanged: to build the most complete and accessible online reference dedicated to the woods of the world.
